The Artwork of Bill Griffiths

Opening Reception: Friday, March 13, 2026

Stroke by Stroke: The Art of Bill Griffiths is a retrospective look at the rich and luminous work of a beloved Worcester-area artist and educator whose influence has shaped the local arts community for decades.

Spanning watercolor, oils, acrylics, and pastels, the exhibition brings together landscapes, portraits, and figure studies that reflect Griffiths’ deep understanding of color, light, form, and hue. Alongside stunning landscape and portrait work, the show includes more playful nude paintings that the artist casually refers to as his “ludey nudies.”

Several large-scale portraits of past lovers add intimacy and emotional depth, offering a personal counterpoint to the more observational works. The exhibition also includes paintings made very recently, created as part of Griffiths’ recovery following a stroke. These works speak to the role of painting as both practice and process, a way of rebuilding, recalibrating, and continuing forward through making.

A longtime instructor at the Worcester Art Museum, Griffiths spent more than forty years teaching and mentoring artists of all levels. Stroke by Stroke reflects an artistic life built through patience, persistence, and care, showing how painting can be a lifelong tool for expression, connection, and healing.

The overview effect

An Exhibition by Jeremy Schilling
9/19/24 - 10/2/24

The Overview Effect work focuses on astronauts and space, specifically exploring the concept of the space suit and how it acts as a shield between a person and their environment. Using oil paint, pen and ink, silkscreen and watercolors, these images are emotionally charged examining homesickness, the acceptance of change, and the loneliness of exploration.

Not of this realm

A group show featuring Jeremy Isaacs, Morgan Freeman, and Mags
4/17/25-5/1/25

Curated by Madame Punkcake, this haunting show featured the stunning, wild, and sometimes eerie work of three local artists: Jeremy Isaacs, Morgan Freeman, and Mags.

“I hung the art last night and fell in love with some of the most unliekly creatures. I also got the chills, exclaimed in wonder, muttered ‘what the f***?’ over and over - all while laying eyes on some of the most beautiful beings to grace the walls of the gallery so far.” - Madame Punkcake

M1ndg4m3s

An Exhibition by Travis Duda
1/16/25 - 2/1/25

The titular hunchback behind Hunchback Gallery - multimedia artist Travis Duda - has been working on this show for more than 4 years, processing the darkness, humor, and absurdity of his experiences and emotions through painting, sculpture, and collage, with found scraps, visual wordplay, graphic design, and stolen ideas. The 50+ pieces in M1ndG4m3s range in theme from love, loss, isolation, emotional growth, and love again, to political ire, depression and mental issues, and the challenges of having “original” ideas in a world tangled by intellectual property and copyright laws.

PARAREALITY

An Exhibition by Scott Boilard
6/6/25 - 6/28/25

Through PARAREALITY, Boilard invites viewers to open their imaginations and explore the intersection of the physical and the imagined. Known for his blend of traditional rendering with modern color and composition, his work evokes emotion rather than relying on the literal representation. Boilard has been influenced by both classic illustrators and abstract expressionists, and his art reflects his lifelong study of the natural world, filtered through a fantastical lens.

HEARTWORK

A group show
2/13/25 - 3/8/25

Love comes in all shapes, especially hearts. But this isn’t your typical Valentine’s show. Artists explored the heart shape in unexpected, unconventional, and wildly creative ways. From classic symbols to anatomic twists, sweet to surreal to punk, this show pushes the boundaries of what a heart can be.

Featuring works by: Nick Alexander, Matthew Burgos, Christine Brown, Hector Cedillo, Croc, Jessica Curtin, Travis Duda, Tamera Duda, Nikki Erskine, Christian Farren, Marissa Haralambides, Shmontray Jacquett Williams, Flarvik Knürdmann, Mags, Abu Mwenye, GT Nightcrawler, Katie Nowicki, Jessica Pagán, John Pagano, Mia Pierre & Christina Roberts, John Powers, Melvin Rivera, Ashley Rose, Carlyn Schwingbeck, Vanessa Schukis, and Jill Marie Strait.

AS ABOVE SO BELOW

An Exhibition by Ashley Rose
12/6/24 - 12/29/24

"As Above, So Below" is a collection of my work that shows the intersection of feminine rage and intimacy. “As Above, So Below” by definition in short, whatever you do in the physical world will reflect itself in the spiritual realm. Naturally as most artists, with whatever media they may use the goal is to for one be connected. Which I feel most of my paintings all end up connecting somehow. When I see my art all together, for me personally I feel resilience, it would be nice to share that with the public.
